The National Youth Orchestra Festival 2025 is a gathering of musicians age 8 to 28 playing violin, viola, cello, double bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, trumpet, trombone, French horn, tuba and percussion.
The theme this year is ‘Storytelling through music’, and the main item on the programme is the world premiere of ‘Otjihambarere’ by Eslon Hindundu – a Namibian fairytale using a story written by Namibian children.
From 13 to 21 June, professional orchestra musicians from Germany and Namibia will be preparing young Namibians for two gala concerts. YONA (Youth Orchestras of Namibia) has collaborated with Enrico Palascino and the Radio Symphony Orchestra Berlin to recruit professional musicians to coach the various instrument sections.
Christian Ludwig will conduct the first half of the programme with exciting repertoire ranging from the Baroque all the way to modern and contemporary styles. In the second half of the programme, Eslon Hindundu will conduct the world premiere of his composition, Otjihambarere (a Namibian Fairytale). Special guests for this item are the choir members from St. Patricks School (Omomas), Kalkrand district.
